The Convent Hotel

The rooms are compact and don't have many amenities, though ours was comfortable and nicely decorated. A really cute hotel with a bit of character, and handy if you're going to an event at western.

Our family room, number 22, had plenty of room for three adults and a five-year-old. The Convent Hotel has a lovely lived-in character, from the creaky polished floors and brass plumbing to the rustic, country French furnishings. Thoughtful, eclectic art adds to the feel, and the place pairs that history with modern comfort. It was a cold, windy Auckland winter day, so coming inside felt especially welcoming. The city is close by, and we found the price reasonable for a little boutique feel. We didn't have time to try the restaurant, though the menu looked excellent. Maybe next time.

I misplaced my key, and the staff suggested waiting a few days to see if it turned up before paying to change the lock. Luckily, I found it. They were so friendly and kind about it, which was lovely to experience. The room was gorgeous, the bed comfortable, and the location great.

The building looks nice, but the noise was awful. You can hear everything from the restaurant, like staying above a pub. The place felt somewhere between a hostel and that kind of setup. I wouldn't suggest it if you're after a normal, quiet, relaxing stay.
