Golflands Motel

The room was spacious and comfortable, though it could use a little TLC. It’s handy for getting to Howick and other places, even with some road noise. We’d booked for three, but there was no milk or extra towel. We could’ve asked, though, and I’m sure they would have provided them.

There was nowhere comfortable to sit, just hard wooden furniture, and the bed was really uncomfortable. It’s a very basic unit and felt expensive for what you get. We also heard a lot of traffic and people shouting, and it wasn’t that clean, with stained tea towels. Staff weren’t on the same page about checkout: the cleaner came at 10 and said we had to leave then, but the booking email said 11.

It’s close to everything, all within walking distance, and the neatly cut grass was a nice touch. But the noise was awful, with sirens and the motorway right beside the place. Maybe soundproof windows would help. It felt a bit overpriced for one night.

The location is close to everything, but the standard room was very basic for the price. The owner seemed grumpy, and we were constantly reminded to keep the kids quiet and stop them running around outside. The Wi-Fi was so slow, even though the website says high-speed internet.
