While camping at Castlepoint, we stopped in for a couple of drinks and takeaway fish and chips. What a gem. The garden bar is great, and the meals people were having looked delicious. There are outdoor games for kids, and locals were playing touch rugby on the lawn. It had a relaxed, friendly feel. Best of all, the fish and chips were the freshest and most generous I've had in years. Anyone visiting should call in, you'll be glad you did. Well done to the Whakataki staff for getting this icon humming again.

We'd booked just one night but had mixed up the dates. The team helped my little family out, accommodated what we needed, and made everything smooth from there. They're absolutely great people. I'd highly recommend this place!

We took two friends visiting from the Waikato and New Plymouth out on Sunday 2 November. We hadn't seen each other for 52 years, and this was such a welcoming, family-friendly pub to stop at. The bartender, waiter, and staff were all very welcoming. The food was really tasty and nicely presented. The owners have got this one just right. Thank you so much.

The food was awesome, the service fabulous, and everyone was friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend. I can't rate the rooms since we didn't stay overnight.

The food was excellent and very good value, and the bar had a fabulous atmosphere, with a pool table for socialising and a wonderful fire. A great rural hospitality experience. It's important that we all support these Kiwi Icons.
