Blenheim Road Motor Lodge

They really looked after me here, and I'd definitely come back. The rooms were clean and roomy, there was plenty of parking, and pets are welcome, with a small garden out back for them.

I had to scramble for a room at the last minute after calling to ask if mine was available. I'd booked on Airbnb, but the host had let a whole business day pass without confirming, then told me there was no room because “airbnb not good.” If rooms are listed as available, bookings need to be followed up and guests told promptly if they can't be accommodated, instead of leaving them to call and then canceling. If Airbnb is “not good,” take the listing down so others don't get caught out. I suspect the owner doesn't care either way, but travelers beware.

The room I stayed in smelled like dog urine, and the floors and rooms were dirty. Even without trying, it gets dirty if you're there for a week or more. My dog caught mites there and is still recovering, so don't take your dogs. Angela was rude and woke me from a nap when I was really sick, just to accuse me of not picking up after my dog, even though there were other dogs with their owners in other rooms. I wouldn't have chosen this motel if I hadn't been in emergency housing. I'm not claiming to be perfect, but be aware.

The staff were really friendly and helpful at Blenheim road motor lodge. It's a good place to stay, not too far from Westfield Riccarton.
