Be careful booking here. There are no managers on site, and the closest help was 10 minutes away. Our smoke detector was faulty, and its manufacture date was 2005, four years past the ten-year maximum use period. The first cheap Chinese 9v battery was flat, and the second one from the same brand didn't help. It made a poor connection and kept beeping. The staff were friendly but struggled with English and couldn't fix it. It was late, and I couldn't move my children, so I drove to a store open until midnight and bought my own detector. The rooms are old, and the wiring concerned me. The wall heater didn't work, and its plug had burnt points. Part of the plastic on the wall socket was smashed, leaving it possible for a child to get their fingers to live cables. These owners are taking chances with people's safety. Be careful.

We found it a good, modest and cosy place for a family stay. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the price was reasonable. The courtyard and car parks looked well kept, while wear and tear was starting to show in parts of the building. Even so, our bedrooms, kitchen, and bathrooms were clean and tidy. The shower pressure was low, though I expected that. The park is about a five-minute walk away, and the nearest Westfield shopping mall is within a ten-minute drive. WiFi speed was decent too 😆

It felt run down and unclean. The heaters didn't work, and the couch was pretty dirty. I thought the room was overpriced, and the manager was quite demanding about getting payment before we arrived. The upside was being close to riccarton.

DO NOT BOOK this Motel. I made an online booking through their website for a work colleague for four nights, but when he arrived they said they couldn't find it and could only put him up for the first night. Then, oddly, I got an email the next morning saying the booking had been cancelled and refunded. Very unprofessional.

Good value for the money. It's China owned, and the old decor has a comforting feel. The courtyard is nice, and Hagley Park is easy to reach for a bit of exercise. I'd recommend it.
