The Halswell Accommodation

The dining room seemed quite dark when we came in from the sun, but we had a really nice family brunch for a quiet birthday. The staff were attentive and the food was yummy. This was our third visit, so we expected a good meal, and the personal service was especially appreciated. We'll definitely come back. :)

We stopped in around 5pm on April 21, and the staff made us feel welcome straight away. The place is in a nice spot on the main road, and the waitstaff and bartender looked after us well. The burger had great flavour, the fried chicken was just right, and we really enjoyed dessert. My wife even finished all her food, which is rare and left me nothing! The bartender also made a custom drink for us when my wife and I asked. Great food and service for a pub.

The duty manager, Becca I think, made our evening out with friends really uncomfortable. She didn't smile, came across as unfriendly and intimidating, and treated us as if we were an inconvenience instead of paying customers. A welcoming atmosphere is part of hospitality, and that was missing here. I hope management takes the feedback seriously. This visit fell well short of what we expected, and we're unlikely to return.

The manager made us feel so welcome and kept checking in for a chat, and took care of everything we needed during our trip. The service and hospitality were top class. We loved the restaurant and bar food, and my partner said the Guinness was the best he’d had in New Zealand. The room was exactly right for us, with a really comfortable bed. The location worked well too, with a bus into the city leaving from right outside. We had such a good time we didn't want to leave, and we'd love to come back. I'd recommend staying here to anyone travelling to Christchurch.
