Fresh bread in the morning was the highlight, and the beds were comfortable. The place was tidy and had what we needed for a comfortable stay. Graeme was a great host, really friendly and knew a lot about local events and the area. There’s some maintenance and a proper spring clean needed, though. A group of tourists outside our room kept partying late and ignored the quiet after 10pm, so sleep was difficult.

We got a double room with its own kitchen for a pretty good price, and the staff were very friendly. The downside was the guy who kept following me around, possibly the owner, because I left my heavy backpack in the lobby for the last few hours before our flight.

The housekeepers were great and kept my room clean, and the two cats are adorable. This is a friendly hostel where it’s easy to meet other backpackers, including among the staff. Don’t miss the tasty fresh bread in the morning. Thanks, Vegabond, for being my first home in NZ. I recommend this hostel!

Everything you need is here, though there isn’t much luxury, so it works well for a longer stay. The staff are awesome, and the fresh bread in the morning is the best part. The rooms could probably use an overhaul. I stayed in 01/2015.

I only stopped to look at the notice board while trying to buy a used car, so I didn’t stay at the hostel. The staff were friendly, and the building and location looked beautiful.
