Wigram Hotel

The meals were wonderful and consistently top quality, and the bed was super comfortable. I also appreciated the warm bathroom floor. It's a historic hotel, which was a big part of our interest, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. There's plenty of parking, the airforce museum is a five-minute walk away, and Hornby Mall is a short drive. Thanks to all the staff. We recommend staying here.

I finally got to stay in the beautiful Art Deco building I've wanted to visit for years. My late grandfather did his RNZAF officer training here during WWII. The bar and restaurant downstairs are pleasant, and I can imagine the function rooms have a great buzz during a wedding. My guest room was luxurious and comfortable, though it was one of the inside rooms with only high windows.

The quiet part of town and the service both made us glad we chose this lovely, little-known hotel near the RNZAF museum. Its 1938 period architecture, generous rooms, and period details were just what we wanted. We had lamb chops for dinner, and they were excellent. We'd recommend it.

The bar has a great outdoor area, relaxed music, and friendly service. The beer was good, too, served in nice cold glasses, though a pint cost $13.00. Our main disappointment was the $26.00 Crispy Chicken meal: just 6 small strips and a huge pile of chips. We expected at least 12 strips, so it felt like poor value. Maybe that's why only 2 other people were there. They'll need to offer better value to bring customers back.
