Studio1 on the ground floor was mint, with a high vaulted ceiling, quiet heating, a spacious bathroom, and plenty of room to move. We got lucky that it was the one available. It had been warmed up before we arrived on a cold, rainy afternoon around 5°, and the skies cleared later. The views over the river toward the mountains were unbelievable. Our hosts were helpful and knew the local area well. We enjoyed good food and a few drinks by the small fireplace. A very comfortable, enjoyable stop on our way north. Highly recommend the room and views.

The view from the room was pretty darn good, and the hosts were friendly and helpful. The place is dated, but so what. Well worth stopping, and I’d stay again.

Jo and Butch made us feel welcome right away, and the views from our room were breathtaking. It was spacious, and having a full kitchen was a real bonus, so it felt like home. We had a fantastic stay at Mt. Hutt Lodge and will definitely return. I understand why some reviews call the owners unfriendly or “rude.” Butch has a strong personality, perhaps because he’s a chef, but he was helpful and friendly with us. We’d recommend staying here if you’re visiting this lovely part of New Zealand.

Jo and Butch were amazing hosts and made us feel welcome and at home. They’re genuinely lovely, and for us were the icing on the cake of New Zealand hospitality. They’re retiring soon, so make a point of visiting.

The owners were kind, welcoming, and lovely to chat with. Their warm hospitality made us feel at home, and we enjoyed their company and every moment of our stay at the Hutt lodge. The attention to detail was outstanding, and the food was delicious. We just loved this peaceful, heartwarming getaway and highly recommend it.
