Sunset Motel

The only small snag was the shower, where even a slight adjustment could change the temperature a lot. Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay and would happily return. The lady at reception was incredibly friendly and helpful. Our double room was surprisingly spacious for a one-night stay, clean and fresh-smelling, with a comfortable bed and a beautiful view. The facilities were great too, including laundry access, a microwave and fridge.

Spacious, quiet rooms in a good location, with lovely little touches and a really comfortable feel. The staff were friendly, made me feel welcome and helped out. The shower was enjoyable too. This is absolutely my new favourite place to stay in Fox.

The view outside was nice, but I wouldn't recommend staying here. I could barely breathe in the room, so anyone with allergies, asthma or dust sensitivity should avoid it. There were moths everywhere, and the room smelled awful, like dust, mothballs and urine. Carpets, mattress, furniture and curtains had what looked like decades of dust buildup, and the room felt disgusting. The beds were smaller than twin size and the most uncomfortable I've ever slept on in accommodation. The rooms badly need renovation and updates, especially given the nightly price, which seems like it should leave room for even minor improvements. The shower reeked of urine, and the showerhead was wild: either ice-cold water blasted out or scorching water came through as a trickle.

This was the cheapest place we stayed in during our 21-day South Island road trip, and the value was second to none. Our room was quite large and stayed toasty warm all night. The view was spectacular. We spent more time looking out the window than watching TV. Loved it.
