The bar next door had a relaxed, welcoming feel. We loved the drinks Karl, the manager, recommended, and he was very friendly. We had such a good time playing table tennis and enjoying the beautiful town that we wanted another night, but they were fully booked. The hotel looks old from the outside, though the room was modern and very clean. There was plenty of storage and everything we needed, including a heater, electric blanket, kettle, and hair dryer.

We drove out from Queenstown on a beautiful scenic route and stopped at Bold peak bar & lodge for food. That burger was the best I’ve had, and honestly puts Ferg burger to shame. Well worth the lovely drive. Top it off with a cold speights and a beef burger!

I stopped in for lunch and had the steak sandwich. It was a piece of steak on bread, just as I like it, and made for a decent, tasty meal. There’s a cafe on one side and a bar on the other, with a bigger dining area around the back. Ordering was like at other cafes, at the counter, then they brought the food to our table. There were quite a few options on the paper menu behind the counter and in the cabinet.

The burgers are amazing. Carl was wonderful too, greeting people and asking how they were, which made the place feel welcoming. There were lots of locals, and they all seemed to know the staff. We stopped by for a spot of lunch.

We loved the spacious room and modern bathroom, and check-in was super easy. The bed was very comfortable, and breakfast was delicious and got us going in the morning. We also had a great fish and chips dinner at the bar, with some of the most beautiful scenery on the planet around us. Karl was a great representative of New Zealand hospitality, and the rest of the staff were friendly and welcoming. One of the coolest places we’ve stayed! Steve and Diane from Colorado USA
