We're still baffled by what happened. We appreciated that there was public laundry, but the dryer didn't get our clothes dry. We kept going back every half hour, which wasn't how we wanted to spend the evening, and the whole laundry job dragged on from 3pm to 11:30pm. The laundry room usually closes at 06:30pm. I spoke with Amber (I think), who was very friendly and said not to worry, she'd keep it open. She did, thank you, until we went to check on the washing one last time at 11:30pm, when the room was locked. We were ready to give up and take it wet to our room. A man working behind the building was nearby, so we politely asked if he could let us in. He refused aggressively. We needed our laundry, so we asked again and said it would take just a minute. He said he didn't have time. We explained we'd be in and out quickly, but he kept refusing and using harsh words, saying he didn't care about our laundry. He said maybe we'd get it tomorrow, if we were lucky. We pointed out that the sign on the door said the laundry room would be closed tomorrow, and he answered with more harsh words. I've never had such a shocking experience. I didn't expect to end 2025 dealing with threats and swearing. Even if we get our clothes tomorrow, they'll be musty after sitting wet in the dryer all night. It didn't feel welcoming to us.

The updated rooms seemed fairly new, and the place was much nicer than I expected based on my idea of US motels. After driving from christchurch, we stayed for a night. I checked in late after a long day and they accommodated that well. It's an excellent location for heading to wharariki beach in the morning.

A great little spot in Collingwood, with a nice, very clean room and a king bed. The people were friendly, too. Handy as a base for the spit, hiking options and the rugged northwest coast. Recommended.

After a long drive back from our day's activity, we arrived late. The owner had anticipated that and messaged me with check-in details and our room information, which made the welcome feel personal. We slept comfortably in twin beds with warm blankets on a chilly night. Staying at collingwood park motel was a calm, pleasant experience. I'd recommend it if you're visiting this part of Golden Bay.

It's quiet and right by the water, with parking next to the unit and a big seaside area for barbecuing. There are plenty of places to eat, as well as a kitchen, and rubbish sorting bins. Booking was easy, and they let us arrive early. The place is close to lots of Collingwood and very clean. I liked the note explaining the service and the sensible idea of machine-washing the dishes after checkout so they're clean. More motels should do that.
