Aotea Lodge Great Barrier

We booked two Family units for seven people and found them really comfortable. Fiona and Michael were wonderful hosts, and the grounds were beautiful, with native birds all around. The beach is at the end of the street, while the Barrier social club, local shops, and Irish pub are all within an easy walk. We'd happily recommend it and hope to return 👌

The island has a lovely pre-tourist feel, with beautiful walks and plenty to explore in a pristine, natural setting. For accommodation, Aotea Lodge worked really well for us: it was clean, comfortable, affordable, quiet, and well equipped for self-catering, with eateries within walking distance. A small car was included in the package. Fiona replied promptly to all my emails and was great to deal with.

I really liked having the Carrick pub just a short walk away. I was on the island for work and stayed at the lodge for two nights, though I didn't spend much time there. It was clean and well presented. The Wi-Fi was a bit weak, so if you need it for work, you may find a stronger signal at other spots around the lodge. Bring a torch for the walk back after dark.

Cyclone Gabriel cancelled our flights, so we had to add extra days at the Lodge. Fiona was a huge help, arranging alternative flights for us several times and giving us a discounted room rate. She also shared useful information and some great ideas for exploring the island. We'll definitely come back!
