1 St James Ave Family Getaway

We stayed one night at the St James and left an item of clothing in the wardrobe. The manager called and said they'd send it back to our home in Christchurch, and seemed happy to do so. She didn't mention a cost and gave me the impression it was complimentary. My card was then charged a postage and handling fee without my permission or any notice. Charging for postage is perfectly reasonable, but guests should be told the cost and given a choice. Presenting it as a complimentary service and then charging without disclosure was wrong.

The wind was howling outside, but it was warm and cosy indoors, just right for unwinding. The personal service was friendly and made us feel at home, and they got our bedding arrangement exactly right. The beds were wonderfully comfortable. It's convenient and works well for families. We'll definitely be back!

The rooms are beautiful, clean and lovely, with a big, very comfortable bed. You can choose whether you want service, just put the sign on the door. We've been coming here since the quality at Braemar deteriorated, and we haven't been disappointed. The lady at the front desk was wonderful. After I had trouble with my pregnancy and couldn't manage the drive, she managed to fit us in for an extra night at a discount on the day we were leaving. Can't fault the place, 6/5.

From the balcony, we had an amazing view, and the room itself was tidy and very clean. The kitchenette was well equipped, the bed and pillows super comfortable, and I loved the wide spa bath. Restaurants, bars and the hot spring pools are only a three-minute walk away. The staff at reception were lovely and helpful. I'd definitely stay here again 😊.
