The front units were very close to the railway line, though there were no trains. It was a good stay, but the location wasn’t as close to where I needed to be as my usual place, so I rated it lower for that. I probably wouldn’t stay again unless my usual spot was unavailable. That’s just about where it is in relation to where I need to go, not a reflection on the motel.

Portmans handled our large group easily, with a mix of single, double, and family rooms. The grounds and pool were lovely, the staff were welcoming and helpful, and the rooms were well kept. We loved the air con, and the beds were comfortable. Highly recommend.

I picked this place because it had a pool, but the pool looked like this in the photos and was really dirty. I didn’t feel comfortable getting in. Everything else was okay and the rooms were okay too, but I wouldn’t recommend it. The staff were rude and didn’t seem to know much about customer service.

We were travelling from kapiti with our 7 year old boy when car trouble in hastings meant we had to stay several days longer than planned. The family-owned and operated team were amazing and so understanding, and made the unexpected extension a pleasure. Our son interacted with the team, and they made us feel right at home. My son and I swam in the salt water pool every day, it was bliss. I’d highly recommend the place to small families. Thanks Kay, Rachel and spouses.

The staff are great, and the rooms are kept clean and fresh. They’re large and comfortable, with good amenities. A great motel.
