Woodlands Motel & Conference Venue

It’s close enough to walk into town. But we’d booked through booking.com expecting a king bed and private bathroom, and instead got a room with shared toilet and shower access. The bed was two very different singles pushed together. We’d spent the day hiking out of phone range, so I only saw the message asking what sort of accommodation we wanted after checking in. We were exhausted and just went to bed without making a fuss, though it made for a rough night. Not great for the higher price.

The room was clean, at least, but the place felt run down and didn’t look much like the photos. Some lights didn’t work, and the window catches were missing or absent, including in the bathroom. When we arrived at 3:30 pm, nobody was there to meet us, though the key had been left out. Opening the room door, we were hit by a really strong smell that stayed the whole time. We won’t be coming back.

It’s awful to see so many of the beautiful trees cut down. It looks like a massacre has happened. Some greedy company seems to be behind it, and the Council or Bush heritage needs to step in quickly to protect what forest is left.

The beds were really uncomfortable, even though check-in with my mum and brother started off pleasantly. The next day we went out for lunch, then got a call saying staff had come to deliver milk we never asked for and had gone into our room and through our belongings. We told them they couldn’t enter and search our things. The front desk lady was rude and horrible to both me and my mum, right in front of my 10-year-old brother. She said they could go into our room whenever they wanted, called the police, and told us to leave. The same lady followed us back to our room, walked around it and yelled that we had to leave after we repeated that she shouldn’t go through our personal belongings. They kicked us out, and with our house eight hours away, we couldn’t find anywhere else at such short notice and had to drive all the way home. There were also homeless people living there, and the only thing we could smell was marijuana. It wasn’t welcoming at all. This was the worst experience I’ve ever had, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
