U Studios Masterton, SureStay Collection by BW

The staff were fantastic, quick to answer questions and always helpful, and the motel was easy to find in a peaceful area. Our room was bright and spacious, with plenty of space for the adults and kids. There were several problems during our three-night stay, though. The Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, the shower pressure was low, and the main toilet had no lock. The bed was uncomfortable, with loose springs that made us roll toward the middle. We’d booked two bedrooms with two double beds in each, but got one room with doubles and the other with two singles. The lights also flickered when we used the stove, which might point to an electrical issue. It was a decent stay with potential, but some maintenance improvements would help make the price feel like better value.

We only needed somewhere to sleep overnight, and the beds and pillows were comfortable enough. Still, this was a very basic unit and felt overpriced for little more than a place to sleep and shower. The kitchenette was very compact, and the shower was weak. Sink water for handwashing was boiling hot, while the shower stayed only warm even at its hottest setting.

Check-in with the lock box was easy. I sent my in-laws up because we couldn’t get a refund after the Surf Carnival was cancelled. The place was really outdated and, at $250, didn’t feel worth the price for Masterton.

Clean, safe, and nicely priced for a budget hotel. It’s pet and kid friendly, and communication with management was good. I’d stay here again.
