The staff are so friendly, and the peaceful setting made for a lovely stay. We’ve been twice in four years, most recently on 30 January 2026. They’ve done some renovations, replacing the carpet and curtains, but the hotel still feels tired. Our room was clean and comfortable, with a medium mattress and nice pillows. We enjoyed the spa bath, though tried not to think about its slimy-feeling bottom 😅 Dinner was good. I had fish, but the portion was disappointing, with tiny pieces that may have been gurnard rather than the advertised snapper special. My partner loved his lamb, and we shared a delicious twice-cooked pork belly entree. The buffet breakfast was a big letdown. If you’re coeliac or can’t eat gluten, don’t bother. The food wasn’t nice, and the only safe options were awful scrambled eggs, yoghurt and fruit. My partner didn’t seem to mind it.

The location is lovely, with great views, easy parking and a peaceful atmosphere. It’s a huge resort with plenty of amenities, and the staff were genuinely friendly. The room, though, was very average in an aged property, and the amenities provided were just decent. It felt more like a better-quality motel. We may have been unlucky, but the mattress was the worst we’ve had anywhere, far too soft and springy. The first night was uncomfortable, though you kind of train yourself to adjust. Breakfast was fine, the usual standard fare you can get anywhere. It’d be great if they had a signature dish.

The peaceful lakeside setting and lovely views made for a relaxing getaway. Our spacious room was clean and very comfortable, with excellent amenities. Staff were welcoming, professional and always ready to help. Breakfast offered a good range of delicious options, and the service was better than we expected. We also enjoyed the well-kept pool and outdoor areas. I’d happily stay at VR Rotorua Lake Resort again, and recommend it to anyone visiting Rotorua.

We spent one night here last weekend and found it calm and pleasant, with a lovely spot right beside the lake. The staff welcomed us warmly and made everything feel easy and well looked after. Breakfast the next morning was fresh, nicely prepared and delicious. Short stay, but we’d happily return for another peaceful lakeside break. Highly recommended.

Vivek and Nikhil were especially attentive and respectful, and the whole team at VR gave us fantastic service. We had an incredible two-night stay, with a lovely view and a fantastic spa. The hotel was amazing, and we’d highly recommend it. Thanks for making our stay so special. :)
