A proper old-fashioned hotel, like the kind you find all over New Zealand. We enjoyed our stay, even though our street-facing room was one of the older ones. The newer rooms are at the back. Ours wasn't noisy, and everything worked. The shower had exceptional water pressure. The bed was the one letdown, it had seen better days and showed the room's age. We'd stay again.

Our classic car group held its Labour weekend event here, with 250 of us. The team served a delicious, plentiful buffet, and the staff were friendly and incredibly helpful. The rooms were clean and comfortable too. A fabulous venue for group events, and we'd highly recommend it.

After a day of cycling, the spacious, luxurious heritage room was just what we needed. We spent the first night of 2026 at the Brydone, and it was fabulous, with first-rate service and delicious food.

The event dinner was outstanding! We had a newer room with a great king bed, and the sheets and towels were very clean. Everything we needed was there. The shower pressure was fantastic, like having a massage.
