Raylene makes you feel at home and has plenty of useful ideas for getting the most out of your time on the island. She serves a hearty breakfast to start the day and takes a real interest in what you've been up to. The accommodation is wonderful, in a gorgeous, convenient setting. Lochiel is a lovely extra if you're fond of dogs.

A fascinating garden surrounds the house, with Stewart Island birds coming right up to the deck. We spotted kakas, tui, and plenty of others, all from a deck with a sweeping view. Our room was very comfortable, and tea, coffee, and biscuits were always available. Raylene was an exceptionally welcoming host, sharing her knowledge and helping arrange things for us. Breakfast could be made to order, alongside homemade yoghurt, jams, and a choice of cereals. This place is a real gem on Stewart Island.

Raylene was so kind when I fell off my ebike and had bleeding wounds. She went out of her way to dress them. The garden is beautiful, and you can watch native birds visiting up close. Our room was comfortable, and breakfast was generous, with homemade yogurt, rhubarb from the garden, cereals, and toast spreads. Golden bay wharf is an easy walk away for the ferry to ulva island.
