Alpine Backpackers Lodge

We had a comfortable stay with my parents, my husband, our daughter, and me. The room was spotless and had everything we needed, including a full-size kitchen with a huge oven and a washing machine. The bed was very comfortable, and the heat pump kept things cosy, so I slept well each night. It was easy to get around from here: New World was a two-minute walk away, Carrot Park was a ten-minute walk, and Whakapapa was a 20-minute drive. There were local places to eat too, and I’d recommend Ohakune Takeaways. I’d happily recommend the motel to anyone looking for a pleasant, convenient place to stay.

We stayed here on our way to Cold Play in Auckland. The motel’s right in the middle of Ohakune, which worked well for us. The units were clean, with crisp white sheets, comfortable beds and a great hot shower. Check-in was easy and contactless, and the staff were very helpful. Highly recommend!

We’d stayed at alpine motel before and will be back next time, no question. It’s very central, with the supermarket just a 30-second walk away. The rooms are large and super clean, with plenty of space to relax, comfortable beds and warm heating. I don’t get the bad reviews for a place this good, especially when most are from more than five years ago. There’s also a beautiful cat who loves a cuddle and is always looking for food.

We were one adult and two teenagers on a quick ski trip by train, and this place suited us perfectly. The room was cosy and warm, with a kitchenette and hot tub, and it was great value. Everything we needed was in walking distance, from ski rentals and the shuttle to New World and cafes and restaurants. We’ll be back, thank you!
