Otaki Motel

The bathroom was amazing, but this one-night stay had a lot of problems. Cups, mugs and plates were dirty, and the scouring pad was black and filthy when I tried to wash them. The table left black residue on the cloth, the outdoor seat was broken, and the toaster had no cover. The unit needed a proper dusting. I emailed the owner and wasn't happy with the explanation: they said it had been like that for a long time, and the dust and dirty pad seemed to show it hadn't been cleaned over a long period. There were a lot of health and safety concerns. It was overpriced and needs a lot of TLC, though it could be a real gold mine if sorted out.

The check-in was easy and the person was polite. The bathroom was the only good part, honestly. The unit was very outdated, smelled terrible, and needed a better clean. There was also a big gap under the door letting the cold in. I probably wouldn't stay again.

We came from Taranaki for a dog show in Levin and stayed in unit 5. It had everything we needed, and we had a really pleasant, enjoyable time at your little motel with our fur babies. They enjoyed it too. There's a handy little loop walk right beside the motel where the dogs could go and play. We'll add Ōtaki Motel to our list of places to stay. Thanks very much.

The room was dated, though the bathroom had been upgraded. Reception staff were super kind and friendly, and it was a nice place for a night. We did hear some road noise and the train a couple of times overnight. I agree with the suggestion to bring earplugs.
