We’d go back to Marlin House if we had the chance. Our room was in a beautiful, large wooden house on top of the hill, with a fantastic harbour view and sunrise. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms were nice, and the staff were very friendly. They served homemade breakfast in the captain house and did their best to make our stay fab. They’re working on reducing noise between rooms, which is great.

Our host Ray was a pleasure to deal with, always friendly and helpful. We had a clean, cosy suite and felt very comfortable. The complimentary continental breakfast, made with locally sourced produce, was one of the best I’ve had. I’d highly recommend Marlin House to anyone staying in Paihia.

The house is huge, clean and has top-notch views. It could work really well for families or groups. Getting up the hill and stairs isn’t wheelchair friendly, though, and be ready to carry your kids most of the way.

For a large family staying nearby, the top floor of this B&B is worth considering. It has several bedrooms and bathrooms, plus a private kitchen and laundry. There’s also a large deck with a picnic table and BBQ.

Helen and Ken were lovely and very accommodating. The place was clean and comfortable, with a nice view, and breakfast was spectacular.
