Tarltons Lodge

After long drives, I wanted somewhere to unwind and feel pampered. The place has the most beautiful sweeping view of the Bay of Islands. I especially enjoyed the hot tub and the shower, and there were thoughtful extras too, including a fruit basket and champagne.

William Tower’s review is very accurate. EDIT: The owner's response violates Google's Privacy Policy by posting private information from my driver's license on a public forum. The number he shared appears on Tellows as belonging to Booking.com. There were blatant lies in his response. As I left, he handed my credit card information back on the paper he'd written it on. The number he provided wasn't mine, though he did have my number from when I texted them while we were on our way. There was no scam. I paid for a non-refundable stay. AAdvantage Hotels offered to try to work out a refund with them, and I said okay. No refund was given, and that's okay. I agreed to a non-refundable stay without knowing the owner was a controlling, abusive man. His response shows exactly why I recommend not staying here. It speaks for itself: a violation of privacy and disrespect toward women.

The private Jacuzzi overlooking the Bay was a lovely way to unwind each evening after long days touring and hiking. Peter and Katalina were great hosts, and we enjoyed chatting with them. They gave us useful advice about things to do around Paihia and places to eat. Our room was excellent too, with a great Bay view. Highly recommend Tarlton's lodge.

Peter and Katalina made us feel very welcome. We had a lovely room with an incredible view, and really enjoyed our stay. Highly recommend!
