The bathroom ends up flooded after a shower. The builders seem not to have thought it through, because water runs everywhere even with the curtain in place. The room feels cramped and smells of mould. It barely seems insulated, and the roof certainly isn’t. It gets pretty cold at night, and I imagine summer would be horrific. The mattress has no springs, which really sucks.

The chalet had everything we needed to cook, and even came with an iron. Contactless check-in went smoothly. The beach is so close that I could leave the keys in the lockbox and head down for a quick swim. Definitely recommend it.

We came back for the peace and privacy. Being up among the treetops with fantails, tui and keruru around is lovely. The bed was clean and comfy, the bathroom tidy, and we had everything we needed, including a fan, heater, iron, and old-school DVDs. It’s a short walk to Palm Beach and Arcadia Cafe.
