The beds were comfortable and had chargers and curtains, though the curtain on mine was broken. Staff were friendly, and the location was good. For 75 NZD, though, broken curtains weren’t great. I’ve added two pictures, one of the curtain on my bed and one of the curtain on the window facing the outdoor area. Our first-floor bunk room was a bad spot, right among the kitchen, outdoor area, reception, and showers. It was loud. There’s supposed to be quiet in the common areas after 10 pm, but some staff went back to the kitchen and chatted for an hour. The walls are so thin we could hear everything, even though they weren’t speaking loudly. I’d avoid that particular room if possible. Rooms on other floors should be much better. In summer, I’d only stay here if I wanted to party. Noise is an issue, and the place feels a bit rundown. It seems overpriced for what you get, even for Queenstown. Not worth the money, in my view.

Mate, I’ve stayed in loads of hostels, and this is my best one so far. The staff were great, the kitchen had everything I needed, and the room was perfect, with curtains and space to keep my stuff tidy. There’s a bathroom on each floor. I miss my time here. If every hostel I booked while travelling could be like this, things would be so much easier!

The common areas felt pretty cramped, and the rooms could have been cleaner. My biggest issue was the long-haired guy at reception. I asked if the kitchen could be opened quickly, just five minutes after closing, and he rudely told me to go to the convenience store. All that talk of being welcoming felt like a facade. When a little humanity was needed, there was none. He should be ashamed and learn how to treat guests who’ve paid to stay there.

Epic hostel. It felt safe and was clean. They give you a name card to mark your bed, and the different bedding on each one makes it feel homely. The Where’s Wally pictures in the toilets are a fun touch. Just be warned, looking for him while you’re on the toilet can be as bad as, or worse than, watching TikTok!

I had a relaxed stay from November 18-22 and would recommend this hostel. The location on Athol Street is excellent, close to shops and restaurants. InterCity buses for Milford Sound tours and transfers to other cities leave and arrive there, and a Four Square grocery store is only a two-minute walk away. Queenstown is expensive, so cooking your own meals makes sense. The hostel has a spacious common room, dining area, and patio. It also felt secure, with a code for the building and dorm hallways after hours. The dorm had privacy curtains, a shelf above the mattress, outlets, a wall light, a locker under the bunk, extra shelving, and a shower towel. Ventilation was good, with windows you could open or close, plus a blackout curtain. My room faced Athol Street and got some noise from music and karaoke at the bar across the road, but it didn’t go on long, maybe until 11 pm or midnight. The bathrooms are narrow and small, though the Where’s Wally posters in the toilet rooms are a clever detail. The showers had hot water and good pressure. The kitchen was well equipped with utensils, containers, and plenty of fridge and pantry space. Just label your food. They had social events every night, but it was quiet while I was there, so I only went to quiz night. Laundry, luggage storage, free for up to seven days, gear rental, and other useful services are available too. It was good value for the price and what I’d expect from a hostel in this budget range. My only complaints were the tight bathrooms and some street noise at night.
