Holiday Inn Queenstown Frankton Road by IHG

We loved the beautiful views and the convenient location, central to activities and very close to the airport. Parking was easy and plentiful. Staff were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant served an excellent breakfast. My family and I ate dinner there too, with generous portions and good value. The one drawback was the room’s dim lighting. A central ceiling light would’ve helped us see better at night. We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely return.

Our room had two queens and felt cramped for three people with small suitcases, leaving no room to walk around. We did enjoy the little balcony. The location was quiet, about 10 minutes outside Queenstown, with wonderful lake views. Staff were friendly at check-in, and breakfast had a good variety with stunning views of the lake. There were huge tour groups, busloads of mostly Japanese guests.

We booked one night at the Holiday Inn Queenstown (Frankton Road) over New Years, when the city seemed fully booked and this was the most affordable option. We were initially disappointed to be at a global chain, but the distance from central Queenstown turned out to be a relief. We were put off by the city’s ritzy commercialism. Our room was upgraded and had a gorgeous view of the lake and surrounding mountains. The airport was easy to reach, some of the city’s prettiest neighborhoods were walkable, and the breakfast buffet was delicious.

It’s very convenient for the airport, and an Uber or taxi downtown takes less than 10 minutes. The room was standard, with a kettle and refrigerator. There’s an on-site laundry room, just bring coins and detergent. Wifi is available, the TV had screen cast, and there’s an Italian restaurant with pizza. The shower and bedroom are separated by frosted glass that’s still see-through with little distortion, which felt awkward when sharing with family. Parking is very tight in places for shuttle type cars. We had to park lower down and walk up a steep hill. There are steep hills and stairs around the property too. A wheelchair might be possible, but the slopes look scary steep.
