Ken is a great host, but the motel feels like it has reached a low point. It may have been a great place in 1964, but now it needs a high standard renovation, or it should be offered to local Iwi at a fair price. I could list the improvements it needs, though I doubt there's much point.

The check-in took about 40 minutes while we waited for the person I assume was the owner to arrive, and we felt like a nuisance. The beds were hard and uncomfortable, and we had to use a peg to pull the curtains together enough for privacy. I was embarrassed that the Australian and Canadian guests with us might take this as Kiwi hospitality. The room was very dated. It was clean, or as clean as it could be in that condition, but the owner didn't seem to care about guests. The price was far too high, and it was clear no money was going back into the rooms. Worst room I've ever had. There are better places for less, so don't stay here.

The location made for a peaceful break, away from Rotorua's busy areas and just across the road from the lake. Ken went out of his way to make sure we had what we needed, though Cody stole the show with all the pats and belly rubs he was happy to accept. The rooms are a little dated, but very clean and comfortable. I'd stay again when I'm back in Rotorua.
