Millennium Hotel Rotorua

Norrie Areli made our Club-level stay at the Millennium Hotel especially welcoming. He was attentive and gracious, and I enjoyed seeing him at breakfast and happy hour each day. We were there for two days while visiting Rotorua, and being so close to Polynesian Spa was a nice bonus. The room was warm when we arrived and took a while to cool down with the AC, though it was comfortable overall.

The hot water pools were great and we enjoyed the breakfast, but this was the worst of the six hotels on our vacation. We learned during the visit that the hotel was built on sacred land, and we wouldn't have stayed had we known. We won't return. The building looked beautiful, inside and out, so I didn't expect so many problems. On two different days, the phones failed to connect to all three lines, including room service and the front desk. They rang, played a busy message asking us to hold, then went silent. My husband had an injury and needed ice, so I had to go downstairs for it every day. The heater shut off overnight, and at 3 am we received a message left by December from someone breathing. I told the front desk, but nobody offered to investigate on either of the two days I raised it.

We spent the start of our honeymoon here and had a really nice time. Breakfast was lovely, the rooms and room service were great, and the team handled a couple of small snags well. When what I assume was a rare bit of work in the hotel wing left our shower unusable from about 11-2, they moved us upstairs to a better room. We appreciated that. A cleaner had put our wet clothes on top of dry ones, but they collected the clothes from our room and dried them for us. There was also a mix-up because I confused the room number on the card with the wifi code. Reception said they needed to fix an issue that could cause that, and we received 20% off dinner and 6 complimentary drinks. Great service overall. I think the Millennium tries hard, and we'd be happy to return. Thanks for a nice stay.

The location made it easy to walk into town for dinner or activities, and we found plenty of free street parking around the hotel when the on-site spaces got busy during peak season. My partner and I stayed two nights in December 2025, using the place as a base to explore the area. Our newly renovated room felt modern and refreshed even though the hotel itself is a little older. The bed was comfortable, and we slept well. We'd definitely recommend staying here.
