The thermal pool downstairs was a lovely extra after a swim in the lake, which is only a few metres away. Breakfast was delicious, and the service was just as lovely. This time we had Room 2 upstairs, with a pretty side view of the lake and a balcony that still felt private. It suited the three of us well, was tidy and comfortable, and the bedroom fan helped because the smaller room can heat up quickly. We've stayed twice now, in February last year and again this weekend, and both visits have been lovely. The woman who greeted us, who we think is also the owner, remembered us from last time and made us feel very welcome. One small suggestion: the TVs only have Sky at the moment. A smart TV option like Netflix would give us more to watch in the evenings. We'd happily return.

The bed was comfortable, and the plunge pool was pleasant, though it looks like it needs an upgrade. The bathroom also felt very tired and overdue for a refresh. For two people staying several days, one 30ml bottle of body wash was far too little. The room wasn't given any more when serviced, and there was no body wash or anything else in the shower. I've stayed in much cheaper places with better room service, and for the price here that was strange. We paid for a downstairs room at Clearwater Motor lodge with an outdoor area by the lake, but it opened right onto the boardwalk. People walking past could see straight in, which felt like being in a fishbowl. The room was dated and in desperate need of updating. It got muggy and extremely hot from underfloor heating we couldn't control. Even with the air-con running continuously, it stayed hot and noisy. Plumbing from the room above made it hard to sleep: we could hear everything, including a bath running around 11pm, then draining through the spa in our room. Parking was tight and limited, and clearly not designed for utes. Given the prices, we'd look elsewhere next time.

The waterfront setting was the highlight, with a thermal stream right beside it and a great view. An in-room tub and daily cleaning were nice to have. The room was clean and had what we needed, including a basic but useful kitchen. Parking was free, and town was just an easy few minutes' drive away.

The thermal pool is a nice bonus, and the owners were friendly. Being right by the lake also gave us easy access to the walking path along the shore.

We had a wonderful time for my partner's birthday. There was an extra bottle of wine and some chocolate, and the view over Taupo Lake was amazing. The room and kitchen were very clean and had everything we needed, plus a beautiful jacuzzi. We enjoyed it so much, and the receptionists gave us a lovely welcome. I highly recommend this place.
