Stag Park Accommodation

For a one-night stop, it was a pleasant stay with a bit of preparation. It's good value and comfortable for one person or a couple, with clean, tidy facilities and rooms that look recently redone. Just be aware, as others have said, this is a truck stop. There's lots of parking outside rooms on one side, and the diner is set up nicely for meals. A small shopping centre is a short walk away. The rooms have a TV, a plug-in fan and a heater, but no aircon. I couldn't work out how to use the TV. The walls are thin, so ordinary conversation carries from the next room. While we were there, everyone was quiet and respectful, so that wasn't an issue. Bathrooms, toilets, kitchen, and lounge are communal, with one small shared fridge. There's no communal crockery or utensils, and the kitchen has no sink, so bring your own if you plan to eat breakfast in your room. Bottled water is a good idea too. I only held back a star for service because the confirmation email came late in the day and didn't include the front door code. A quick call sorted it out, but I'd check in earlier so there's time to phone about any issues.

We stopped here so I could rest during a drive from Wellys to Auckland. There was black mould on the shower ceiling, and a dead cockroach on the bathroom floor. The sheets felt and smelled dirty, like they hadn't been changed, and my partner and I got bitten by something. The duvet had no cover, and one of the towels felt dirty and gave me a rash.

There was no mention when booking that this was a truck stop, and it was hard to find without any signage. We didn't feel very safe, so we went inside and then back out to book somewhere else. The vibe and room made us uncomfortable. The bathroom didn't look clean either, with orange pubic hair under the toilet seat. I guess that's what you get with cheaper accommodation, but yuck. Always check the reviews before booking.

The rooms and toilets were filthy, there was no soap or basic bathroom supplies, and ants and bugs were all over the place. It was extremely uncomfortable and unhygienic. The hosts were unresponsive and unhelpful, with no sense of care or responsibility. It felt like they didn't care about the guest experience at all. This was by far the worst place I've ever stayed, and I would never recommend it. If you're visiting this beautiful city, stay somewhere else. This place is a complete disaster and could ruin your trip.
