We had a drink at the bar, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating. Our second-floor room was huge, comfortable and modern, and seemed to have been recently upgraded. The bed was luxurious and comfy too. Some parts of the hotel still have an older style, but the room was perfect for us. Caroline Bay is about a 10-minute walk away.

The hotel has a fascinating history and has hosted the queen twice. Rooms are a good size and the facilities are good. Reception, bar and restaurant staff were friendly and helpful, and the restaurant had a good range of meals. With a little more imagination in the decor, this could be the place to visit.

The pub became a handy halfway stop on all my walks between my accommodation and Caroline Bay. I got thirsty several times, and enjoyed the bartender's banter with me and the other customers. I didn't catch his name, but he's the long-haired, surfer-looking one. I also left my bag at no charge. I arrived at noon, while my room at another accommodation wasn't ready until 3, and being able to explore Timaru without carrying my luggage made my day. The team were lovely, from Amy, if I'm remembering right, to the woman I spoke with when picking up my bag. Thanks again.

My parents had a wonderful two-night stay at The Grosvenor in Timaru during their holiday. Thy at the front desk made them feel welcome and looked after, arranging a lovely room and making sure they were comfortable. She was warm, kind, attentive and professional, and clearly cares about her guests. Thank you, Thy, for making their stay so pleasant. We highly recommend The Grosvenor for its hospitality.

We enjoyed our stay and would happily come back. Tea at reception helped us get checked in, and the whole process felt welcoming and smooth. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and this classic vintage hotel is very convenient.
