West Meadows Motel

The manager/owner who greeted us was warm and genuinely helpful. She took time to point out sightseeing spots and recommend local restaurants. The room itself was quiet, the bed was very comfortable, and having a dishwasher was a nice extra. Even the kettle, tea bags, and tissues were good, well-known brands, a small detail that showed care. West Meadow Hotel is listed as three stars, but the accommodation and service felt excellent. It is on the pricey side, though the quality made the cost feel justified. I had a wonderful stay that went beyond what I expected, and I'd happily return and recommend it.

Calling it a motel doesn't really do the property justice. It's lovely and well equipped, and was better than some hotels we stayed at in South Island. We booked a two-bedroom place with a queen bed and two singles. Since there were three of us, the owners or managers kindly put the single beds together to make our stay more comfortable. Each room had nice bathrobes and slippers, and the kitchen had a good range of equipment, including a cooktop, dishwasher, toaster, microwave, and electric kettle. Laundry is available for a fee outside the rooms. We managed a late check-in, though we had to call because the property wasn't responding quickly enough through Booking.com. At checkout, leaving the keys in the box outside reception was all we needed to do. Highly recommend it if you're visiting Wanaka.

The hospitality was so kind and thoughtful, even helping us get a coat back after we left it behind while traveling. Our room was gorgeous and clean, and the customer service was lovely and cheerful. Thank you for making our visit to Wanaka special.

West Meadows turned out much better than we expected after our doubts about choosing a motel over more “boutique” accommodation. The modern, roomy rooms were very clean and serviced daily. We had a comfortable king-size bed, a great rainhead shower, and plenty of parking off the street. The staff were friendly and helpful throughout. We’d definitely stay again.
