Whitianga Campground

We had a two-night booking at Whitianga Campground for a very busy holiday weekend, but it was cancelled with less than a day to go. Nobody explained why or contacted us to let us know. We discovered it at the last minute, when everywhere nearby was already booked, and had to scramble for somewhere to stay. A phone call, an explanation, or help finding another option would have made a real difference. I understand places get busy, but cancelling a confirmed booking like this, without any explanation or courtesy, left us stressed and out of options. I wouldn’t feel confident booking here again.

We stayed here after Christmas and were really disappointed. The cabin hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived, with dirty dishes and pizza boxes left behind, and the toilets were disgusting and stank. The double bed had a base smaller than its mattress. Management was absolutely terrible. I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone, and give it zero stars.

A classic Kiwi campground with that laid-back summer feel. People were friendly, the beach is just across the road, and it has all the facilities you need for camping. Loved it, and wish there were more places like this.

I never made it there because I got my booking wrong, and I take full responsibility. I didn’t ask for anything, but staff member Grant Jonas sent me an email that was very aggressive and unprofessional. I lost money, though maybe it was a blessing in disguise. Who wants a holiday in an unpleasant environment?
