Arabian Oryx Camp

The room was comfortable and had everything we needed, and dinner and breakfast were fresh and tasty. We especially loved being surrounded by the dunes. The eastern slopes were quite steep, while the western ones were easier to climb and gave us great views. Arabian Oryx Camp is in Wahibah sands, about a 15-20 minute off-road drive from the highway, so it felt remote without being too hard to reach. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I’d happily recommend it for a comfortable desert stay.

The dune bash was one of the best parts, and Naser, the driver recommended by the hotel, was very skilled and professional. We also saw camels wandering around the grounds and even spotted oryx. Dinner with live music felt really authentic. The hotel went above and beyond with its service, and we had a great time. Highly recommended.

The restaurant and grand hall were nice, and dinner was good. But the stay itself was a very bad experience, and I felt awful bringing guests here. If cleanliness and feeling welcome matter to you, I wouldn’t recommend this place at all. The bathroom smelled bad, the rooms were dirty, and the receptionist was rude. We had booked with payment on arrival, and even had a photo of the confirmation message saying so. When we got there, though, they asked why we hadn’t told them we were coming and said we should have paid something in advance, which had never been mentioned. We were only able to stay because they had rooms free, so it seemed the rooms hadn’t actually been booked. There were three of us in one room and they charged 15 OMR for an extra bed. Then workers brought a mattress to put on the floor. When I asked the receptionist about it, he said an extra bed would cost 35 OMR, even though while we were paying he had said 15 OMR for the extra bed, not for a mattress.

The sunset and dune bashing were unforgettable, and dinner was delicious. The staff were really nice too. I stayed here on a tour, and it was the best desert experience I’ve had.
