Sister Moon Hotel

The location scored 5/5, but both the room and service were 1/5. I wouldn't return or recommend this place. The hotel calls itself an eco-friendly beach stay, yet the cleanliness, upkeep, and management were unacceptable. Guests shouldn't have to complain to get a clean, working room, and when you're asking for the bare minimum, the experience is already lost. For the full three days, cigarette butts sat in an ashtray on the main oceanfront deck. The bins stayed full without their bags being changed, and the pool was dirty and moldy. The bar, advertised as open until 2:00 a.m., never opened. The restaurant was shut both when we checked in and at midday, only opening around 1:30 p.m. There was no real supervision or follow-up from management. Our room was handed over dirty and missing basic items. There were no towels or toilet paper, the bathroom curtain had fallen because it was missing hooks, and a used razor was left in the shower. The mirror had toothpaste splashed on it, the floors were poorly cleaned, and there was a dead cockroach in the bathroom. One window had no curtain, and the others had very sheer ones that offered zero privacy and little light control. The air conditioner leaked the whole stay, dripping right onto the bed. Several problems were dealt with after we complained, but nobody from management followed up. The person in charge knew about all the trouble and still never came over to introduce themselves, apologize, or check that things were okay after the fixes. That made it feel like the way the hotel operates, not just a one-off mistake.

My girlfriend and I had an amazing New Year's at this villa. It sits right by the ocean with nothing blocking the view, yet still feels private. We really liked having both the open sea view and that sense of seclusion. I'd recommend it to anyone visiting Isla Grande, and we'd love to return.

The woman at the desk was very nice, and she'd only been working there for five days. Breakfast was decent, but our rooms had biting ants, centipedes, and other strange bugs, and there were no smoke alarms. We had reserved through the website at $75, but were charged $110 a night. When we asked for management, nobody offered a solution. Do NOT stay here. There are other hotels on the island, and I love Isla Grande!

It felt odd asking the owner anything about the island or wanting something from the bar, because she'd respond with attitude, as if we shouldn't ask. That's a shame, since the hotel is really cute, private from the rest of the island, and has its own bar and breakfast. It could be perfect. With new hotels opening on the island, we'll try one of those next time.
