The District Hotel Panama

The location is good, but the hotel badly needs repairs and maintenance. The lobby smelled nice when we arrived; our first room smelled musty and the AC didn't work. A maintenance guy came to try to fix it, but he only spoke Spanish and couldn't read translations. At an international chain, how is that possible? I asked to move rooms. The next room had no smell and working AC, but the glass shower door didn't work properly, so water leaked across the rest of the bathroom. Breakfast was basic, and the tour operators weren't very accommodating. I wouldn't recommend staying here for this price. We only chose it because we're Hilton members and the Hilton hotel was full.

The front desk staff were the only good part of a very short stay. We checked in, dropped our bags, turned on the TV, and went out for a late dinner after a long flight. When we got back at 1 am, the hotel and room made us so uncomfortable that we found another hotel and left at 1:30. We were prepared to lose our money if a refund wasn't possible. Go somewhere else. The elevator already smelled moldy. The hall carpet was filthy and torn, the lighting was uneven, and there was a musty smell. In the room, the furniture was old and worn, mold was visible under the air conditioner, and there were long condensation or drip marks on the wall. The other walls were filthy in a way I'd never seen before. The coffee maker had sugar and stirrers but no coffee. The bathroom and beds looked clean, but the linens and pillowcases were dingy and stained. We didn't feel comfortable sitting on anything. The hotel is in terrible condition and needs a complete update. Photos don't show the full extent of it.

My room was spacious and really comfortable, and the view was fantastic. The staff were friendly too. A very nice place.

The location is very good, with car rental places, restaurants, grocery stores, and a metro station all within walking distance in the business district. But I wouldn't consider this place safe for families, and I can't believe it's a Hilton. I'm not picky, even though I'd read bad reviews before arriving. The room was in poor shape. The curtain was broken, and maintenance didn't fix it after two calls. It was only repaired after I contacted the Hilton helpline. I called because the pool area lights weren't on in the evening. My daughter hit a glass wall and got a bruise on her head, while people were swimming with a real risk of accidents. When I told reception, the person acted surprised. The pool wasn't cleaned every day, mold was growing along all the tile edges, there were no pool towels, and some gym equipment didn't work. The toilet in our room seemed to have been repaired. Things are falling apart here. The breakfast buffet was below basic. A server filled your plate, and the fruit platter stayed empty for long stretches. I've had better choices at other Hampton Inns.
