Cabanas Time Out

Tyler, the owner’s son, runs the place himself and is warm and welcoming. He speaks Spanish and English perfectly. The property had only recently reopened, and we can recommend it with confidence. You can watch the sunset from the pool or terrace with a fantastic cocktail he makes himself, or a cold local beer. This is a great base for a snorkeling or diving trip to isla Coiba. We went, and honestly, you can’t come to Santa Catalina without visiting isla Coiba. Tyler offered to make us sandwiches for the day, which was a real plus since the food on the snorkeling tour wasn’t very good. In the evening, he also cooked two simple but excellent meals, even though he isn’t the official cook. You can book a few nights at CTO and trust you’ll be looked after with care and passion. Time Out has a well-kept pool and bar, and we found it hard to leave this little sanctuary. The owner is a very kind and helpful Californian, always available if you need anything. Our apartment reminded us of Charlie Harper’s, with a sea view, kitchen, and comfortable entryway. He also arranged a relaxed tour to Coiba National Park for us. The issues other guests mentioned are being addressed and fixed.

The view is spectacular, and the staff were very attentive. It’s a lovely place to relax, and I’d recommend staying more than one night.
