I was exhausted but couldn't sleep until morning because of the noise. If you want a proper night's rest, avoid this place and the streets between, really. In the town center, I'd choose somewhere facing the river, since the constant sound of the water is about as good as it gets. We found Pachaya hostal, which cost almost the same and felt much cozier and cleaner, like a place where you don't feel dirt poor.
They gave us breakfast the night before so we could take it up to Machu Picchu and wouldn't have to wake up extra early to eat. The hostel is no frills, but the beds were really comfortable, the showers had hot water and great pressure, the WiFi was fine, and the location was nice. Fair price, would recommend.
The beds were clean and comfortable, and the place is near the train station at the rear of town. It's adequate for one night, but expensive by Peru standards. My shower ran hot for about 30 seconds, then turned cold. Checkout at 9am seemed ridiculously early to me, since most places are around 11 or later. Breakfast is served from 4am-7, which makes sense for hikers but is too early if you're not one.
Towels and soap were included, and they had takeaway food. The hot shower was perfect and the WiFi worked well.
The beds had plenty of blankets, so I stayed warm at night, and the showers were hot. Breakfast was nice too. For a budget hostal in agua calientes, where places can cost a bit more, it’s a good option. The lady running it seemed busy and sometimes came across as grumpy or annoyed with us.
