The location is great and the place is pretty, but I wanted to give it five stars and there were too many issues. The pool and hot tub shown in the pictures were both out of service, which was a letdown because that’s why we booked. There was dark green mildew all over the wall beside the bed, and we had to wipe it down ourselves. The room was generally dirty, including the bathroom, floors, and walls. The balcony door didn’t lock, and there were no safes, so our belongings didn’t feel secure. There was no mini fridge for keeping drinks cold or food fresh. The AC didn’t work and there was no remote. When we turned it on, it filled the room with a mildew smell. I assume some of this may have been because we arrived in February during low season, when they might not have had full staff. Take that into account if you’re thinking of staying.

The beds were comfortable, the shower was decent, and breakfast was a real highlight. The woman at the front desk was also lovely and helpful, so I’d give her customer service five stars. Sadly, our overall stay wasn’t great, partly because her shifts didn’t cover all the time we were there. Another staff member was dismissive and seemed uninterested in helping. We’d booked a queen and a twin bed, but because we hoped to check in early, we were first taken to a room with three twins. Its balcony door had a deadbolt but no key, and stairs from the balcony led into another area that was apparently for staff. We were told only staff could use the stairs, but we weren’t comfortable with staff having access to our room. The woman at the desk helped us move to another room and store our bags until it was ready. That second room was much better, with a private balcony and a nicer bathroom, but the internet barely worked. It hovered around 1 Mbps, kept disconnecting, and reached 5 Mbps only briefly. That meant we couldn’t use basic internet or watch TV or movies. On the second day, we asked about the connection. The man at the desk said the signal might not reach that room and offered another. We checked it and found a door connecting to another room that wouldn’t stay shut or lock. Even if it had locked, the mechanism was on the other side and didn’t need a key, so anyone could open it. The other room’s main door was standing open. The employee just promised not to put anyone in there. We didn’t feel safe with our belongings in yet another room like that, so we spent our second and last night in the room with no internet. The same employee said the internet was slow because it was cloudy and they used Starlink. He also said everywhere in aguas callientes relied on Starlink, which we were told wasn’t true. There are conventional internet services in town, and we could see the neighboring place’s Wi-Fi with full bars while ours had one bar or none. He was on his laptop and seemed to want us to go away, with no real effort to help. There’s also a “jacuzzi” you can reserve, but it’s tiny and right in the middle of the hotel, like sitting in a bathtub in the lobby. That wasn’t what we’d hoped for.

We’d definitely stay at Gringo Bill Hotel again. It was clean, comfortable, and very well located for getting around Aguas Calientes and enjoying the area. Elber, the front desk manager, was especially helpful, friendly, and professional throughout our visit. His support made a real difference, and I’d recommend the hotel to anyone visiting Machu Picchu.

Everyone was incredibly friendly, and the water was very hot. The rooms are beautiful and it’s in a great location. Breakfast is included, delicious, and starts early enough for an early entry into machu Pichu.

The room was clean and neat, and the WiFi worked well. Guille was really helpful, including arranging an early breakfast and picking us up at the train station. Great central spot too. I'd recommend it.
