Catedral Arequipa

The Wi-Fi kept cutting out and was almost unusable. In the morning there was no hot water, although it had been hot the night before. I assume they switch it off overnight to save power, leaving anyone up early out of luck. The rooftop bar’s loud, thumping subwoofer made the evening miserable. We complained several times, but the staff didn’t care, and it was impossible to relax or sleep. They also didn’t offer to help with luggage, which meant hauling it up several flights of narrow stairs. The location just isn’t worth that experience. Avoid if you can.

The view is nice, and the location is great, but that’s about all I liked. The rooms were dirty, the sheets weren’t clean, and the showers were rubbish. Arequipa is so small that walking from somewhere farther away wouldn’t take long anyway.

I haven’t stayed here, but I went in to ask if my daughter could use the restroom. It cost S/2.00, and I was able to pay with my digital wallet. The receptionist was very friendly. I waited in the reception area on the second floor, which has a lovely view. On a future visit to Arequipa, I’ll try staying here to see the rooms and service.

After visiting Arequipa Cathedral, there are lovely shops and cafes nearby where you can get coffee, buy handicrafts, or just take in the city. From the Plaza de Armas, the view of the cathedral is striking, and its architecture and intricate details are breathtaking. It’s a place full of history, beauty, and local life, and a must-see.
