Walking into downtown from the hotel was manageable, and the front desk said it was safe when we asked around 7:30 PM. The route still felt unwelcoming, with dog waste along the sidewalks and a large rat running across my wife’s foot. That may not be the hotel’s fault, but it’s something to keep in mind. The hotel is several blocks from Cusco’s beautiful, lively center, down a narrow one-way alley. Stopping to unload caused traffic to back up, with drivers honking because there was nowhere comfortable to pull over. Our room had almost no window, just one facing what looked like an old elevator shaft, so it felt hot and stuffy without natural light or ventilation. The food was acceptable, nothing special. Expect alley access and those neighborhood conditions on the walk into town.

Breakfast was really good, and the staff were always very helpful. We stayed here twice, before and after a trip to Aguas Calientes. The lower-ground-floor room was stuffy from poor ventilation and stayed bright until later because it opened straight onto the restaurant. Our second room on the ground floor was a bit better, but we could hear all the plumbing next door. The shower floors slope and are extremely slippery, with no anti-slip protection. We were careful, but I’m surprised they haven’t put down mats, since it could be dangerous. Bottled water and other extras were expensive. We still had a lovely stay.

The rooms were noisy enough to affect our sleep. Even when the evenings were generally quiet, considerable disturbances started around 6:00. We also enjoyed the evening restaurant food, though service dragged: with very few other diners, we waited about 25 minutes for a drink and another 25 for our meal. On the good side, the location was excellent, the front desk staff were helpful, and breakfast had a particularly rich selection. The room amenities were standard and satisfactory.

The team made everything easy when we ran into bus problems, and helped get it all sorted. From arrival to departure, nothing seemed too much trouble. The hotel has a lovely colonial interior with lots of character, and it’s ideally placed near the old town. The food is great quality, and filtered water is free. The rooms are a little small and don’t block much noise, though I suppose that’s hard to change in an old building. Still, the service was five-star and I’d highly recommend it. Outstanding stay.

The room was a decent size, with large, comfortable beds. We had steady hot water and good pressure in the shower, plus a smart TV, tea facilities, and a water refill point at reception. It’s a short walk to the market and main squares. Our first-floor room was right by the restaurant and breakfast area, so it got pretty noisy. It also had no window. We hadn’t realized that when booking and would have picked a different room if we’d known.
