Hotel Kenamari

The hotel was so helpful when I left my laundry at a local laundry service and moved to another country. They arranged to ship it back to Korea and kept me updated throughout, which eased my worries. I’m grateful for their warm hospitality. My room was cozy, the hot water was good, and having an elevator was convenient. I’d highly recommend the hotel.

Apart from the hot water, things were okay. Guest service was good, the location was fairly good, and breakfast was very simple, the same bread, eggs, cheese, and drinks every day. The hot water supply, including the shower, needs to stay on from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sometimes it ran out even before 10. It was tough to manage that after getting back late from a day tour and dinner, with three of us sharing one room.

This is a 3-star hotel, and while it isn’t luxurious, the service and family-style attention make up for that. It’s owned by a lovely couple who hand-picked the staff to give good service. The rooms were clean, the beds comfortable, and the hot showers great. It’s half a block from Avenida del Sol and about four blocks from Plaza de Armas. There are money changers and pharmacies along the walk to the Plaza, and plenty of good restaurants around it.

The comfortable beds and heaters in the rooms were good points, and the owner or manager is nice. But it’s expensive for what you get, and the Wi-Fi was pretty rubbish. There’s a nightclub down the alley, so outside gets noisy. We checked in to a dark, cramped internal room we hadn’t booked. After moving, we found the bath wouldn’t fill, even though we’d chosen the hotel for that because my wife was sick. They also threw away a day’s supply of her medication. When we raised it with the owner, she didn’t seem to care and said the mistakes would come out of the staff’s wages, which left the receptionist in tears. I’d head to San Blas instead. the monasterio del Inca is much nicer, and the rooms cost $40 less.
