Akilpo

Our bus was cancelled, so instead of arriving Thursday we got to Huaraz on Friday evening. Akilpo Home was very flexible and didn’t charge us for Thursday night. Esteban greeted us warmly, showed us our lovely room, and the whole place was super clean with great beds. Breakfast at 7 was lovely, with fresh pancakes, mango and other fruit, and coffee. Luis suggested some good day trips and helped us book the Laguna 69 tour. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. Thanks to Luis, Esteban, and the rest of the team for looking after us so well. We had a wonderful stay and hope to come back.

I turned up on my own without much of a plan, just looking for treks, and Akilpo’s team helped me figure out what suited me and how to acclimatize before the mini huayahash. They kept checking that I was doing okay, and Esteban’s advice, support, and sense of humor meant a lot. The room was spotless too, and the chef deserves a mention for the banana bread. The Huayahash trek was incredibly beautiful. Anna guided us in a calm, kind way, encouraging me without pushing, and by the end I felt I’d made a friend. Her dad cooked for us and did a fantastic job with nutritious, delicious meals. The guest house and trekking company both gave me a great experience. Thank you to everyone at Akilpo!

The staff really made the stay special. They were genuinely kind, shared hike recommendations and routes, helped us get ready, and even cleaned our shoes. The rooms were comfortable and very clean, and breakfast was fresh and delicious. Since our hike began at 4 a.m., they also packed breakfast for us to take along.

A convenient spot with really helpful staff and a good breakfast. I especially liked that they cooked the eggs to order. Next time, I’d choose one of the rooms with a private patio so I could sit outside and relax.
