The room had a musty odor, and the front desk couldn't give me a clear answer about anything beyond the water being out and needing money to refill it.

Marcel was the exception among the staff, always friendly. Others sometimes seemed uninterested or had a sour attitude. The place is run down, though housekeeping does a decent job with the bathrooms and shared areas. I booked five nights, with two nights away on a jungle tour. I meant to keep my bed while I was gone, since the staff wouldn't help cancel those two nights and cancelling then rebooking online didn't seem worthwhile. When I got back, someone else had been given my bed, even though I'd paid for it. They hadn't notified me, and wouldn't help with a refund, despite it being within the cancellation window. Their laundry was meant to take 24 hours but took 36. My clothes came back wet, and some still had visible soap on them. They offered no solution for either issue. The price is affordable, but I'd spend a few dollars more and stay somewhere else.

Room number 1 was a great private room for my girlfriend and me. We had our own AC, a private bathroom with hot water, and a gorgeous river view over the pier along the water. It's also an easy walk to restaurants, the main square, museums, shops, and a motorcycle rental place. Highly recommend it.

It's a comfortable, clean place with a nice common area for meeting other travellers. It's right on the waterfront, and families can stay there too. The photos suggest there's a terrace guests can use, but that's not the case. A staff member said someone once climbed up and stole the chairs. Without access to the terrace, you miss what would be a great view. The kitchen is meant to be off limits to guests until 10am, though they let us make breakfast. Washing your own clothes isn't allowed either. I tried a sink that looked like it was for laundry, but was told it would say so if it were. I assume they want guests to use their paid laundry service. I was also concerned that the emergency exits are kept locked with a key. To get out, you need a staff member to use a button at reception, which wouldn't work without electricity, or fetch keys. The windows all have bars. That doesn't seem much use in a fire.
