Sarisa House

We’re absolutely sure we locked our room before going out to dinner in the city, but 2300 Peruvian Soles in cash was stolen from us on the property. We don’t have proof of exactly who took it. Even if the staff’s best case is that a stranger got into the room, guests should be warned. When we reported it, the owner showed no interest in helping and basically told us to look after our things better. Stay far away from this house!

The family who own and run this boarding house are friendly and helpful, and everything was nice and clean. There’s a decent kitchen too. It’s a simple place to stay in Iquitos, though not close to restaurants and similar places. Moto taxis are cheap here.

I liked it and I’ll be back. It’s a happy middle ground between a Hostal and a Hotel: you get your own room and bathroom, but share the kitchen with the family and other guests. It’s humble, with small rooms and no AC, but the kitchen is good. The prices work well for travelers who want a more local view of Iquitos. If you’re coming to Peru, learn some Spanish, not just for Sarisas, but for getting a Cab, a "Moto Taxi", or pretty much anything. If you want a hotel-like experience, you’ll have to pay a lot more.

The homey atmosphere made the place feel quiet and calm. It’s a little far from the center, but a moto taxi costs only 3 soles. The room had a private bath, the kitchen was very well equipped, and sarisa is a great hostess, though she doesn’t speak English. There’s also a roof with a nice breeze, but no chairs.
