The kitchen and shared spaces were well set up and had what we needed. Our room was just as pictured and what you’d expect from this kind of two-star accommodation, and we had no problems with it. In the bathrooms, toilet paper and soap weren’t always topped up promptly, though that was within our expectations. There are lots of food options close by, and the neighborhood felt pretty safe. It’s outside Lima’s usual tourist areas like Miraflores and Barranco, but getting there by Uber was simple and never a concern. Staff were nice and generally accommodating, though their English was hit or miss. A translation app should help if you don’t speak Spanish. One thing to keep in mind: the street is loud, and the club downstairs played music at night over the weekend we stayed. Being outside our comfort zone and the usual tourist spots meant we got to see other parts of Lima we probably wouldn’t have visited otherwise.

The first receptionist was great, she showed me around the hostel and introduced me to the city, and her English was very good. I had a harder time asking for help with the other receptionist, whose English was quite poor. It’s very close to the city centre, and the kitchen is nicely equipped. The rooms were okay and had small lockers, and breakfast was okay too. I wouldn’t choose a private room here, since there’s nothing special about them. Mine was also noisy because of the nearby bars.

I didn’t feel comfortable here in general. I was in a six-person dorm, and one locker was broken. On the first night, the host repaired it outside our room until 10:30 pm, making a lot of noise. He brought it inside afterward and moved furniture while people were already asleep, then came back around 11 with a headlamp to clean it while people were still trying to sleep. The next day I was out all day. When I got back, all my valuables were unlocked in the hallway. The hostel had given me a locker and a lock, and I had my key with me. Someone from the hostel had taken my lock to secure the breakfast things instead, leaving my laptop, camera, cash, credit cards, and passport out in the hall. That simply cannot happen! There were a few good things: it’s close enough to walk to the historic center, breakfast is free and simple but enough, and they provide a towel. The showers are hot, with shampoo, and there’s a hot water dispenser available all day.

We really like Lima House. The location’s great, and it’s a clean, simple place. The lockers are handy for leaving your luggage while you’re out. Stephanie was super friendly and helpful, and the rest of the staff were lovely too.

The staff are really friendly and the location is pretty great, but there’s nowhere comfortable to hang out. The rooms, beds, and bedding felt dusty and stuffy, and the pillows were the worst. Breakfast is only toast and coffee. An egg would go a long way.
