Mariel Hotel Boutique

We picked this hotel because it's right by the markets, handy for last-minute souvenir shopping. Cross the street and you're there. The room was basic but clean, with hot water, AC, and wifi. Someone at the lobby desk buzzes guests in. Our flight was cancelled, so we got there at 1am worried we wouldn't be let in, but the staff member even remembered us and checked us in quickly.

The property was clean and well maintained, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. It worked really well as a base for exploring and taking day trips around the area.

The location was okay, and the hotel was decent for the price. Staff were very friendly, and breakfast was great.

Marco deserves a shout-out for helping us arrange a car to a friend's house. Staff were friendly and consistently helpful, and the location made it easy to reach the nearby markets, Kennedy park, and the parks along the cliff. The room felt a bit tight, but there was enough room for the three of us and our three single beds. Beds were okay, the AC worked properly, and the window had a blackout shade. In the bathroom there was wall-mounted shampoo, which I didn't use, plus bar soaps and a roomy counter. The sink drained very slowly, as if it were clogged. I reported it at the front desk and someone came to fix it, but it was still the same. Breakfast is free from 7-10am on the mezzanine floor. The food was just okay and choices were limited, with only cantaloupe every day and scrambled eggs. Refills when food ran out were really slow. This was okay for a short stay because of the location.
