Private Open Guest House

The owner was nice, but our two stays were very different. On the first visit, the room was large and had a small sink, though the only little window faced inside and the room smelled unpleasant. It and the bathroom were only partly clean, and the towels smelled so bad we didn’t use them. We came back a week later hoping to stay another two nights. Only one room was available, and it was worse than anything I’d seen before. The smell hit us as soon as we entered. There wasn’t a proper window, just one into the kitchen, and opening that didn’t help. After three hours, at 10 p.m., the odor was still there, so we felt stuck. We slept badly and had headaches the next day. Our clothes and bags still stink from that room. I suspect there may be mold that gets painted over regularly, though I can’t be sure. The owner seemed used to the smell. He refunded only the following night, which we spent at another hotel, and I felt that was unfair. I’m going to try to get the first night refunded too. I can’t recommend the place and hope something is done about the room. There was also noise from the kitchen window. We heard a man singing loudly until 12 p.m., from a window right beside the kitchen’s. I can’t speak for the other rooms beyond the first and last in the hallway, but if you don’t want to take a chance, I wouldn’t stay here.
