Wally's House Mancora

I had a pretty bad stay at Wallys Hostel. I didn’t get along with the owner, and I later heard other people had the same experience. I extended my stay in Máncora at short notice, booked around 8 p.m., and arrived at 10:30 p.m. I chose this hostel because check-in was supposed to be possible until 11. The owner was unfriendly and said he couldn’t find my reservation. I couldn’t show it in Hostelworld, but later saw I’d received a confirmation email, so there may have been a misunderstanding. Still, he said things like, “What are you doing here?”, “Can I see the reservation?”, “I don’t believe you,” and “You’re lying to me. I need better Spanish.” I felt very uncomfortable and would definitely have left right away if it hadn’t been nighttime. He also argued that the Hostelworld price was only a suggestion and that he’d charge me more because I was already there. In the end, he let me stay at the Hostelworld price, though he charges extra for water and other things. The next day he was a little nicer, but I couldn’t trust that it was sincere. Luckily, I could return to Kinti Guesthouse, which I can highly recommend.

I stayed at Wally's house for about a month and had a great time. The hostel feels homelike, and Jose makes sure everyone has a good stay. It’s walkable to everything in town, but tucked away enough to sleep well at night.

A really nice hostel in Mancora. The beds are comfy and have fans and mosquito nets, and breakfast is delicious. Wally and Jose are wonderful hosts who make you feel at home right away. Thanks again!

The beach and surf were easy to get to from Wally's House, which was a big plus. My boyfriend and I stayed four nights, and Wally was such a thoughtful host that by the time we left, we felt like part of the family. We'd happily recommend it.
